Today only three main types of horses exists and they are heavy horses, light horses and ponies. They are categorized due to their physical abilities. Heavy are also called dray or draught horses and it looks just like its name that is its heavy in built and has a very strong body with a broad back and rounded withers. Its legs are short and thick therefore they are mostly used in farm work as they move with calculated steps.
Light horses are usually used in racing purposes as they are comfortable to ride because a saddle can be fitted on them comfortably since they lighter bodies than the heavy ones and they do not bend their knees when they bend. The ribs of these horses are known as the false and true ribs. True ones are the first eight ribs which are flat compared to the false ones and therefore male a better placement for the saddle as it can settle in perfectly. Quarter horses are also a form of light horses. The third form of horses is the ponies. They are small animals and are not as huge or powerful as the first two types of horses.
They are miniature in size and sometimes can be confused as baby horses which are known as foals. They are different in many other ways from the other two aside from the size factor they have thicker manes and tails and coats then the other two and therefore look a bit different from the usual horses. They also have smaller heads and their necks are thicker as well. They have stubborn habits and are friendly creatures and can be trained. They are also very intelligent creatures who have a way of their own and are easily trained for work.
